Flexity Magdeburg: This is what modern public transit looks like
Magdeburg is taking a major step toward smart mobility. The new Flexity tram, combining comfort, design, and cutting-edge innovation, will soon run through the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. Produced by Alstom and operated by Magdeburg Transport Company (MVB), it features a comprehensive suite of TSL-ESCHA technologies, including several innovations developed exclusively for this project.
“The Flexity Magdeburg was an exciting project for us, allowing us to combine groundbreaking innovations with proven solutions,” explains CEO Gilles Heinrich. In close collaboration with Alstom, a product portfolio was created that integrates harmoniously into the tram’s modern design while delivering top-tier functionality.
Innovative Lighting Solutions and Proven Products
Among the products developed specifically for the Flexity are the LSA14 roof edge light, the PL14 occupancy light, and the LBC upper light. These systems not only improve visibility and safety but also give the vehicle its distinctive lighting signature. “Our goal was to perfectly merge design and functionality perfectly while meeting the project’s specific requirements with precision,” Gilles Heinrich adds.
In addition to these new developments, the tram incorporates a wide range of TSL-ESCHA’s trusted products, including exterior and interior door light strips (LS), light strips integrated into the door cove (LSK), door opening push buttons (PK5x), warning sounders (WM87), LED signal lights (SLE16n), handrail buttons (HSTIB), and indicator lights (ML100). Each component contributes to an intuitive, safe, and comfortable passenger experience.
Expertise, Partnership, and Project Success
The collaboration between Alstom and TSL-ESCHA was defined by technical precision, close partnership, and a shared commitment to creating an outstanding vehicle. During the development phase, design concepts and functional requirements were closely aligned. The result? A tram that not only meets the highest standards of quality and durability but also prioritizes user-friendliness. It stands as a shining example of the future of urban mobility.
As part of the MAFELEC TEAM, a network of specialized companies that has established itself as a portfolio provider of solutions for harsh environments, TSL-ESCHA contributes not only its technological expertise but also the strength and resources of a global network. This partnership enables the development and seamless implementation of innovative solutions, a key factor in the success of the Flexity Magdeburg.
A total of 35 trams are planned, with series production and delivery scheduled to begin in mid-2025. Delivery of TSL-ESCHA components will be completed within the next two years. Through the Magdeburg project, TSL-ESCHA demonstrates its ability to successfully execute complex projects, from the initial concept and development through to full vehicle integration. The company showcases not only its product innovation but also its precision and efficiency in meeting customer-specific requirements.
A Symbol of Innovation, Partnership, and Technical Excellence
The Flexity Magdeburg stands as a symbol of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. Energy-efficient LED technology and maintenance-free push buttons ensure reliable operation for years to come. In doing so, MAFELEC TEAM not only drives progress and safety in public transport but also helps shape Magdeburg’s modern cityscape.
“We are proud to be part of this project,” concludes Gilles Heinrich. “The Flexity shows how advanced lighting and control technology can make everyday travel safer and more enjoyable for countless passengers.”
